# Switch recordings

Recordings by Thomas Lai, from [tplai/kbsim](https://github.com/tplai/kbsim), used under the MIT license (see LICENSE.md).

Pinned upstream commit: `ba103f3b0afa9dab80447aa2e7e2ed80b6bd80e4`.

`Originals/` preserves the upstream MP3 files. Bundled WAV files are mastered derivatives: 48 kHz mono, low-frequency rumble removed, ultrasonic content filtered, leading/trailing dead air trimmed, short boundary fades, and matched peak levels with headroom. The release level is controlled independently during playback. `scripts/master-switches.py` reproduces them; `mastering.json` records the output.

Switch names identify the recorded profiles. Toccado is not affiliated with switch manufacturers. Topre is an electrocapacitive profile and is labeled separately from mechanical tactile switches.

## Keychron K10

Keychron K10 linear recordings by **Sadiquecat**, published February 22, 2025 on Freesound under [CC0 1.0](https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/):

- [Individual keys, A to +](https://freesound.org/people/Sadiquecat/sounds/789628/)
- [Enter](https://freesound.org/people/Sadiquecat/sounds/789629/)
- [Space bar](https://freesound.org/people/Sadiquecat/sounds/789630/)

The publicly available high-quality MP3 previews are preserved in `Originals/Keychron/`. `scripts/master-keychron.py` crops separate bottom-out and top-out transients, removes rumble, applies short fades, and balances peaks. Keychron K10 Linear retains the natural sound; K10 Soft and K10 Crisp are EQ voicings of those same recordings, not recordings of different switch models. Backspace uses an ordinary key sample because the source has no dedicated Backspace recording. These 36 derived WAV clips and their mastering report ship with the app. Keychron is not affiliated with Toccado.

## Classic typewriter

Classic old typewriter key recordings by **yottasounds**: [key 1](https://freesound.org/people/yottasounds/sounds/380138/), [key 2](https://freesound.org/people/yottasounds/sounds/380137/), and [key 3](https://freesound.org/people/yottasounds/sounds/380136/), published February 6, 2017. [Carriage return](https://freesound.org/people/ramsamba/sounds/318686/) by **ramsamba**, published August 3, 2015. All four source recordings are published under [CC0 1.0](https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/).

The public high-quality MP3 previews are preserved in `Originals/Typewriter/`. `scripts/master-typewriter.py` creates clean 48 kHz mono WAVs with short boundary fades and peak headroom. Five press slots cycle the three source keys; Space and Backspace use ordinary key recordings. Enter plays the recorded carriage return. These are complete one-shots, so this profile deliberately adds no key-up sound. It is a mix of classic typewriter recordings, not a claim to one named make or model. The original synthesized Typewriter profile is also retained.
